Plant Care Guidelines
Adaptation: Primarily zones 4 through 9. To determine your climate zone, see the map in Plant Climate Zone Map. Not adapted to low desert areas.
Flowering Time: Late spring.
Light: Full sun.
Soil: Hawthorns will thrive in almost any type of garden soil. However, most prefer a soil pH below 7.8.
Fertilizer: Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer according to label directions.
Water:
How much: Apply enough water to wet the soil 2 to 3 feet deep. To determine the proper amount of water for your soil type, see How Much Water to Apply.
How often: Keep plants on the dry side. Water when the soil is dry 4 inches below the surface. For more information about watering, see About Watering.
Pruning: Cut off any blighted or dead branches. Some shrubs may be sheared to form a dense hedge.
